Chair, Board of Governors
State University System of Florida

Florida’s public higher education system is facing many challenges, not unlike other states’. We are fortunate to have outstanding leadership within our institutions and boards of trustees. There is no more important focus right now than bringing together all of our universities to work strategically, as a unified system.
My goals include working very closely with our elected leaders, policy makers and Florida’s strong business and industry communities. We will strive for consistency, as well as appropriate and predictable funding.
Faculty is also very important. States are competing for the best and the brightest in the classroom and Florida is no exception. Working together, our universities can position themselves for continuing to retain and attract outstanding educators and researchers. With increased private funding and additional innovative public resources, we can stop the “brain drain.”
I’m pleased to serve as chair of the Board of Governors and I look forward to building strong partnerships and developing relationships with community and industry leaders --- leaders who recognize the value of a strong higher education system and its impact on our state’s economic future.
